Mr O'Reilly reflects on sustaining academic attainment through remote learning in Junior School
A successful rapid transition to remote learning has ensured pupils from Reception through to Year 6 have been able to participate in a full St Mary's education - whether from home or in school.
In this short video, Junior School Head, Matthew O'Reilly reflects on the positive impact of the St Mary's approach over the past year, with girls continuing to progress in line with expectations - despite the disruption caused by Covid-19.
As Mr O'Reilly comments, he has been able to reassure parents with confidence that all girls are continuing to thrive because: "Online remote learning at St Mary's is not about simply about sitting at a computer all day, it's about being inspired and engaged. Our fully live lessons run for the whole school day and aim to inspire creative, agile learners through a programme that encompasses academic subjects, enrichment and pastoral care."
Parents have echoed this sentiment, sharing very positive views on St Mary's transition to online learning in 2020. Of course, the real heroes of this story are the girls themselves. Showing the resilience, positivity and community spirit that are a core part of the Mary Ward values nurtured throughout Junior School, pupils have coped admirably.
From recreating the circulatory system to modelling Roman Roads, pupils have been creative, producing outstanding work during their time at home. Alongside their live, interactive academic lessons, they have enjoyed learning through off-screen enrichment days - such as celebrating nature on International Charles Darwin Day - as well as keeping active through sporting challenges, and finding time to think of others.
