The Sister Christopher Memorial Fund

In Loving Memory of Sister Christopher

Sister Christopher Ruth Angell CJ

17 December 1916 – 28 July 2023

The Gift of Education, The Legacy of Service
The Sister Christopher Bursary Fund is established in memory of a remarkable woman who died aged 106 whilst still serving in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe having devoted her entire life to education, service, and her faith.

Sister Christopher was a distinguished alumna of our school who served as both Head Girl and later, as Headmistress, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students. Her life was a testament to the values upheld by our School's founder, Mary Ward.

About Sister Christopher
She was a dedicated Catholic nun who lived an extraordinary life of service and commitment. From her early days in the United Kingdom to her mission in Africa, she tirelessly worked to make a difference in the lives of others. Her dedication and unwavering love for education inspired countless individuals.

The Legacy Continues
The Sister Christopher Bursary Fund aims to carry forward her legacy by providing financial assistance for young girls from a diverse range of lower-income backgrounds, with exceptional merit and potential, to attend our esteemed school.

Previous bursaries have helped, on average, 50 students each year over the last five years, providing support between 25% and 110% of the cost of attendance here at St Mary's. Over the coming years we aim to increase our bursary provision to support even more students: this enhancement of our existing bursary funds will be a fitting tribute to a woman who believed in the power of education to transform lives.

Supporting Mary Ward's Vision
St Mary's upholds values of compassion, courage, and service. We believe that every young girl should have access to quality education, regardless of her circumstances. With your support, we can continue to nurture and empower the leaders of tomorrow.
