With a strong set of academic results under their belts, their future looks incredibly bright. As the girls leave St Mary’s we are excited to follow what they do next. We wish them all the best for the future and look forward to hearing about all the amazing things they will undoubtedly go on to achieve in their lives.”

Headmistress at St Mary’s School, Cambridge, Charlotte Avery, said: "I am extremely proud of our Class of 2021 and the success that they have achieved this year. Like last year, this cohort has faced the uncertainty caused by COVID with great resilience and optimism. Their strength of character will stand them in good stead for the future and I know they will continue to excel, whatever they go on to do. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team at St Mary’s who, throughout another difficult year, have been unwavering in the support they have shown our girls.”

Students at St Mary’s School in Cambridge are moving full steam ahead to the next stage in their studies after celebrating GCSE exam results success today.

After another turbulent year in education nationwide, Year 11 students at St Mary’s have shown incredible resilience and determination to succeed, with 47% of grades awarded at A* and 66% of grades awarded at A*-A.  Three students at the school achieved the highest grade (9 and A*) in all of their subjects.

Our headline GCSE results are:

  • 47% A* grades
  • 66% A* - A grades
  • 92% A*- B grades
  • 98% A* - C grades
  • 100% A*- G grades

The following departments celebrated high achievers, with at least half of all students gaining a grade 9: History (53%), Art (50%), Class Civ (57%), Latin (55%) and Classical Greek (60%).  Furthermore, Music achieved 100% grades at 9 or 8.

Headmistress at St Mary’s School, Cambridge, Charlotte Avery, said: “The resolve that our Year 11 students have shown throughout the last two academic years has been incredible. When the pandemic started, this cohort was in Year 10 – at a crucial stage of the GCSE curriculum. Over the last two academic years they have shown great flexibility – seamlessly switching from remote learning to in-class lessons and back again. This agility will stand them in great stead for the future. Well done girls.  We look forward to seeing what our girls will go on to achieve next and can’t wait to welcome many of them back to start their A Levels at St Mary’s in September.”

Warm congratulations from our Headmistress ...

“I am extremely proud of our Class of 2021 and the success that they have achieved this year. Like last year, this cohort has faced the uncertainty caused by COVID with great resilience and optimism. Their strength of character will stand them in good stead for the future and I know they will continue to excel, whatever they go on to do.”

Charlotte Avery, Headmistress

““I’m really looking forward to starting Sixth Form at St Mary’s, having greatly enjoyed my past five years at the Senior School. I am so grateful for the wonderful community and incredibly supportive teachers that have enabled me to achieve my goals. My A Level choices are English, History, Latin and Theology and I can’t wait to get started in September!””

Eliza M. celebrating 11 9’s (equivalent to high A*s)

“I am so glad that all those years ago I chose to go to St Mary's. Not only has it enabled me to achieve fantastic GCSE and A Level results, critical to the next step in my education, but it has also given me some of the most enjoyable, wonderful years of my life! Though I have now officially left St Mary's, I still feel part of the most extraordinary community and it has amazed me how that community has really pulled together over the difficult last few months.”

Molly P. Head Girl 2019/20, going on to study English and Drama at the University of Exeter

“My time at St Mary's has not only allowed me to achieve my best academically, but also grow as a person with the support of the amazing staff and close-knit community which lies at the heart of the school.”

Elena G. A Level student 2020, going on to study Conservation Biology and Ecology at the University of Exeter
