Year 9 pupil delighted to become running record breaker!
At last weekend's club competition at Cambridge and Coleridge Athletics Club, St Mary’s Lara M. put in a dazzling performance in the Year 9 contest.
Not only did she equal the 100 metre record set by Lucy U. in 1998, but she smashed the longstanding 200 metre record set by Lowri C. way back in 1992. Lara clocked 12.7 seconds in the 100 metres, and knocked 0.2 seconds off the 200 metre Year 9 record, coming in at 27.7 seconds. To put this in context, the fastest ever time recorded by a woman in the 200 metres is 21.34 seconds, a world record set by Florence Griffith-Joyner of the US in 1988.
Congratulations, Lara, what a brilliant achievement!
