Year 8 student’s sponge cake animal cell shortlisted in Royal Society of Biology BioArtAttack national competition

As part of their cells topic, Year 8 were set the task to create animal or plant cell models from a variety of materials, which needed to be labelled with internal microscopic structures and their functions. Science Technicians Holli Bielby and Emma Alonso selected the top 10 entries to submit to the Royal Society of Biology BioArtAttack national competition, whose task was ‘to create depictions of nature as drawings, models, and paintings, using a variety of materials’. They made their selection based on the scientific accuracy of the labelling, as well as originality in design and range of materials used.

We are delighted to report that Eilidh H.’s sponge cake model of an animal cell made the shortlist. You can see the full list here. 

All 10 entrants were also recognised in the Spring end-of-term prize giving, receiving certificates for their efforts, and the chosen entries were on display in the Biology department for duration the Spring term.
