Year 7 Geography students head to Epping Forest

On Tuesday 9 May 59 Year 7 Geography students went on a trip to the Epping Forest Field Study Centre where they had an opportunity to create and carry out a geographical enquiry on the topic of rivers. The girls spent some time discussing key terms and processes and then went to look at the local geology using a soil auger and using the soil like paint to complete the geology maps of the area.

In the afternoon the students created an enquiry based on the title "How do the characteristics of Debden Brook change as we go downstream?". The students had a chance to develop and justify their hypotheses before heading to Debden Brook to carry out an investigation where they measured pebble size and shape, river velocity, channel depth and width using a range of fieldwork equipment. The students will now be writing up conclusions and creating a project presenting the data. The girls worked hard on the day and had fun splashing in the river, with some people getting wetter than others!
