Year 6 spend Woodland Explorers planning and building a diverse range of settlements

On Wednesday, Year 6 spent their Woodland Explorer session planning and building a diverse range of settlements to suit the needs of different global communities. Working in small groups, they were assigned one of four challenges, each with different problems. 

Two groups had to build homes in a fishing village prone to flooding during the monsoon season. Two groups were tasked with building in the alpine forest hills where it was difficult to transport resources and the roofs must withstand heavy snow. Another challenge was to build for nomadic tribes who needed shelter from the sun and insulation at night. The final two groups were tasked with building for a community in a hot dry Indian village with little money or resources.  

All the girls had access to the woods and any natural resources they could find. As well as this, they were each given a selection of Lego to build from. As you can see from the resulting photos, much ingenuity and creative problem solving was in evidence!
