Year 5 STEM day
Although our current Year 5 pupils will not be joining the Senior School until September 2018, their ‘induction’ process has progressed this fortnight, with the entire Year 5 cohort attending a STEM day in the Senior School’s Science Hub on Wednesday 14 June. Led by the Senior School Science department, the girls spent time researching different species’ habitats to work out what sort of environmental needs different animals have. The group then set to work to fashion wooden frames, in which they would be able to create a habitat for their chosen animal. Sawing and sanding and gluing together their frames, the girls were busy at work. Finally the girls made electrical circuits through which they were able to give light to their habitats, and each habitat had a working source of light by the end of the day. The girls took their habitats back to the Junior School with them to complete. The girls found it particularly interesting experiencing life at the Senior School for a day and seeing lots of friendly faces from previous years.
