Year 13 English Literature trip to London
Year 13 English Literature students travelled to London for an ‘English in Action: Drama and Poetry pre-1900' study day earlier this week. The day was chaired by Dr Anna Beer from the University of Oxford and saw a range of expert speakers present sessions on Shakespeare’s plays, comparing texts across time and genre and context in pre-1900 theatre and poetry. Dr Simon Avery, from Westminster University, spoke engagingly about Ibsen's 'A Doll's House' and Christina Rossetti's 'Goblin Market' - both of which are set texts Year 13 are studying comparatively as part of their A Level course. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and returned to school with much material to discuss in future lessons. It was also a valuable opportunity to experience university style lectures.
