Year 10 Art visits
On Thursday 30 June Year 10 students visited Girton College to see the ‘People’s Portrait’ exhibition which comprised 53 portrait paintings by different artists of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters depicting ordinary UK people displaying different personalities, occupations and emotions. The exhibition first toured the UK in 2000 but since then it has been on long-term loan to Girton College. The exhibition goes up the main staircase of the college and down the halls to make it a part of everyday life for the students studying there.
In the afternoon the girls visited the Fitzwilliam Museum to gain inspiration from, and to experience, art first-hand – for example the stunning French impressionist pieces. It gave students the chance to look at a range of different artists from different periods with varying styles and media. The girls were free to wander around on their own and choose pieces of art that interested or inspired them personally, and were encouraged to take pictures and sketch at least one object from the museum – providing them with an opportunity to analyse different pieces and to gain inspiration.
