Virtual chamber music recital inspires and delights

St Mary's Music department is delighted to be getting back to 'normal' music making this year as social distancing measures are relaxed and students are permitted to mix bubbles.

Last year, when our usual music showcases were not permitted in schools, we had to think 'outside of the box' in order to share some of our musical endeavours more widely with you, the St Mary's community. You may have seen our first foray into the world of online concerts which took the form of the 'Michaelmas Musical Celebration' and featured dozens of students from Years 7-13 (as well as members of staff).

In the film below, the music department proudly presents an altogether more intimate collection of performances.

At the end of the Summer Term, Year 11 Music Scholar and GCSE Musician Gerri S (who recently gained a distinction in the prestigious, post-Grade 8 ARSM Examination) teamed up with professional mezzo-soprano Anna Starushkevych, who is working part-time as a boarding mistress during the pandemic, to plan and prepare our first virtual chamber music recital.

Our wonderful sound engineer Joe Nicholson then expertly recorded the pair. We hope that you enjoy Gerri and Anna's performances - a legacy of our last lockdown.
