'Unity and Connection' bring out the poets at St Mary's
We were hugely impressed with the entries we received for this year’s Poetry competition, and the interpretation of the theme " Unity and Connection"!
Our poets developed the theme in a variety of brilliant ways, exploring connection (or lack of connection) through, for example, nature, language, technology, poetry, family and society.
Although this year the theme was not specifically about writing poems in different languages, (as was the case last year), we were delighted to receive entries in a range of languages and so - in addition to our usual winning categories - we awarded a prize to the best poem in another language at KS3 and KS4.
With over 80 entries, judging was very challenging indeed. Entries were judged anonymously by four judges, with winners receiving book tokens, house points and chocolates.
Our KS4 Winners:
First Place: "To whom it may concern", by Oz W. in Year 12
Second Place: "Obverse", by Stephanie C. in Year 10
Third Place: "Death of the Pen", by Lucia K-W., Year 10
Third Place: "The Duty of the Poet", by Freya G., Year 13
Best poem using another language: “連結與聯合” ("Continuity and Unity"), by Peggy T. in Year 13
KS3 Winners:
First Place: "The Human Race", by Georgina W. in Year 8
Second Place: "The Dove’s Final Cry", by Charis C., Year 7
Third Place: "The one-eyed man", by Kelly L., Year 9
