The V&A experience
Lucca C., who is about to start her Upper Sixth year, spent a week undertaking a unique work experience placement with her sister, Sukey, who has just completed her Upper Sixth year at the school. The pair worked at the V&A in London in July.
Lucca said: “The experience was amazing, as it really taught me about all the hard work and thought that goes into creating such an impressive museum display, something I would not have learned unless I had spent the week working there.
Mostly I was cataloguing unidentified clocks in the V&A collection and one day I visited the storage house on Blythe Road, which was very impressive. As well as identifying some of the clocks, I got to see the textiles storage department, which was amazing. I went on various tours around different galleries including a private tour of the paintings and prints department. This was fascinating for me as I learnt how they lend works of art to other galleries across the world and I was astounded by how vast their collection was.
I am so glad to have had the opportunity to do it, and living in London for week was also a great experience and an added bonus!”
