The Learning Resource Centre prepares for World Book Day
With World Book Day fast approaching, we wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the ways our school community can promote reading. Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Manager Mrs Jakso is preparing an array of book-themed activities and ways get involved, both at school and beyond.
The World Book Day website provides a range of resources, filled with ideas for how families can share stories together and celebrate books and reading, not just on World Book Day, but all year round. This site includes free audio books and many activities to get younger children excited about reading.
We also recognise, however, that not all children in the UK will have the same access and opportunities to celebrate books and to experience the joy of reading. For this reason, we would also like to help disadvantaged children to have access to books by taking part in The Children's Book Project. We are asking our school community to donate their unwanted or surplus children's books, which the charity will give to children who are facing access barriers to book ownership in the UK. Collection will take place in the library on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd March. We would like to encourage our students and staff to please bring their second-hand book donations to the library on either of those days or drop them into the designated box in the staff room.
On Thursday, we will be offering free bookmarks for the students in the LRC, as well as a quiz and a game of book bingo to win a book. We would like to encourage all Senior School students to come along. We look forward to announcing the winners on 7th March.
