Textiles trip
On Saturday 8 October, four Lower Sixth Textiles students visited the annual Knitting & Stitching Show in Alexandra Palace, London, with Head of Textiles, Mrs Maria Kakengi.
The show brought together a host of gallery exhibitions, showcasing the work of some of the leading names in the industry, such as Alice Kettle, Sue Stone and Anne Kelly. Students were able to look at the work of the Gawthorpe Textile Collection with Manchester School of Art, the Royal School of Needlework, and the creative work of young Textiles graduates. Many exhibitors shared their skills in live demonstrations, including weaving, knitting, crochet, felt making and embroidery to name just a few, and the girls were rather overwhelmed by the variety of skills encompassed in the umbrella term ‘Textiles’.
The Knitting & Stitching Show also offered splendid retail opportunities; over 400 specialist knitting, sewing and textile craft suppliers were in attendance and the girls made the most of it, sourcing some really good finds that will support their projects, of designing and making fascinators, later this term. The girls were all buzzing with ideas on the journey back to school and can’t wait to get started on their projects.
The trip was a total success and the girls thought it was absolutely worth spending their Saturday afternoon at the show.
