Swimming Success

Swimming Success

While Team GB was busy winning medals and breaking records in Tokyo’s Olympic pool, we were celebrating swimming success of our own at St Mary’s School. Senior students, Matilda R., Leonie A. and Georgia M. all qualified and competed in the East Region section of the British Swimming Festival, which saw 1149 swimmers compete at two weekend events at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, and the London Aquatic Centre.

The girls showed determination, talent and resilience. Leonie competed fiercely, while Matilda took achieved gold in her age group for three events: the 200 metre breaststroke, 200 metre individual medley and 200 metre butterfly stroke. Georgia took gold in the 50 metre, 100 metre and 200 metre breaststroke.

We want to say a huge congratulations to the girls. Their commitment to their sport and enthusiasm are a real credit to our school, and their achievements are even more impressive due to this year’s lockdowns and the resulting lack of access to pools.

At St Mary’s, sports are centrals to our commitment to healthy lifestyle and pupil happiness and well-being. Find out more about sports here, and to learn more about our state-of-the-art sporting facilities, follow this link.
