Supporting one another
Miss Joan Latta was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth and, now aged 24, is an inspirational speaker and trainer. She has visited our school previously to talk about living with cerebral palsy and returned on Monday 20 November to discuss mental health issues with our boarders.
Miss Latta spoke about the signs of depression and how to deconstruct the spiral of the condition through supporting one another. Boarders from Year 5 to the Upper Sixth attended the talk, which was interesting for all. The fact that Miss Latta gave a testimony about her own battle with depression, enlightening the girls about how she overcame it, was a powerful message to all in the room.
We are excited to be welcoming Miss Latta back to school on Saturday 25 November to run a workshop on disability. The workshop aims to challenge some of the prejudices that people may have if they are able bodied.
