Students take part in creative media workshops
The Art Department at St Mary’s was delighted to be able to offer all A Level Art and Photography students a full day creative media workshop.
Art students worked with sculptors Mark Dutton, Fay Palkimas and Dorian Wiltshere investigating the design and construction of three-dimensional art. Students had the opportunity to discuss with the sculptors their career, studies and techniques. They learnt casting techniques involving alginate and plaster.
Photography students working with photographer Cat Goryn covered both digital photography and traditional darkroom techniques. They learned how to use telephoto and prime lenses and how to produce liquid developments in the darkroom. Students were eager to find out more about the photographer's career and techniques.
Sally P., a Year 12 Art and Photography student said: "It was an extremely intriguing and inspiring day".
Ms Conroy, the St Mary's Head of Art, added: "We find that workshops help engage students on a multitude of levels and are highly beneficial to their skills base, portfolios and thoughts on entering the art careers field".
The workshops were designed to support the students' coursework portfolios and it also enabled students to meet practicing professionals who are working within the creative industry. Work produced during the day was added to their sketchbook and portfolios.
