Students broaden their art skills with life drawing classes
‘Let whoever may have attained to so much as to have the power of drawing know that he holds a great treasure.’
– Michelangelo 1452 - 1519
Life drawing or drawing from the figure is a challenging but vital skill that visual artists should master. Life drawing takes many differing guises, from full length nude poses to partially clothed stances.
Many higher educational institutes who deliver courses in art-based disciplines now require evidence of life drawing – it is seen as a fundamental skill. In order to give St Mary’s Art students in Key Stage 5 the best chance of gaining entry into such institutes and also to further their portfolios for their A Level qualification, we ran a series of life drawing classes throughout the month of November. The sessions were fully booked and there were lots of lovely drawings produced.
To celebrate the work and achievements of these students we have created a large display in the Sixth Form Studio space.
