St Mary's teacher publishes book to raise funds for free schooling in Sierra Leone

In November 2022, Miriam Mason came to St Mary’s to speak with 6th Form pupils about the work of EducAid, a charity which she co-founded, and which runs a network of free schools in Sierra Leone.

Elizabeth Peck, a teacher of Religious Studies in the Senior School, was moved and inspired by the talk Miriam gave, and wanted to do something to support her work. As an author as well as a teacher, the idea of publishing a book and donating the profits came to mind.

A year later, thanks to the support of The Franciscan Publishing Company, this idea has come to fruition in the form of You Can Tell Me Anything, an illustrated poem for children aged 4-8. As the blurb says, ‘This gentle and honest poem assures the child that an important adult in their life is deeply interested in them, and truly wants to know what is in their heart and mind.’ The book might make a lovely addition to your own collection at home, or perhaps a beautiful Christmas present for nephews, nieces, or grandchildren!

Priced at £6.99, You Can Tell Me Anything is available to pre-order now (publication date 23rd November). Early orders are particularly appreciated, as, if the book proves popular, the publisher may be able to increase the first print-run, thus enabling EducAid to benefit even more!

If you would like to order a copy, please visit www.franciscanpublishing.com. If you select ‘local pick-up,’ you will be able to choose to collect the book either from Dr Degnan in St Mary’s Junior School Office, or from Reception in the Senior School. (Delivery also available.)

Thank you sincerely for your support of this project!
