St Mary's talented young pianists and musicians take to the stage

Musical talent was on full display at our annual Young Pianist and Young Musician of the Year competitions this month. Spread over two evenings, there were more than 40 stellar performances, from Years 6 to 13, on a myriad of instruments including the piano, violin, French horn, oboe, vocals, harp, clarinet, oboe and flute.

While both evenings were a competition, they were also a superb celebration of talent and love for music. Our young musicians have shown great versatility, determination, and commitment in the perfection of their skills and it was a delight to watch and hear them perform in front of a packed and hugely appreciative audience.

Every single student was congratulated for their technique and musicality, and their performances evoked joy and pride in all who attended. Our guest adjudicator, Oliver King, had a very difficult task on both nights to decide the winners. You can read his comments here

Many congratulations to Anson C. (Year 10) on winning Young Pianist of the Year for her performance of ‘Liebesleid’ by Kreisler, and to Hannah F. (Year 10) for winning Young Musician of the Year for her violin performance of Mozart’s ‘Allegro’.

Thank you not only to the students for their hard work, but also to Mrs Gears and Mrs Fisher who dedicate so much time and energy in leading and enriching the musical life of the school.
