St Mary’s students celebrate GCSE results

Students at St Mary’s School in Cambridge are moving full steam ahead to the next stage in their studies after celebrating GCSE exam results success today.

After another turbulent year in education nationwide, Year 11 students at St Mary’s have shown incredible resilience and determination to succeed, with 47% of grades awarded at A* and 66% of grades awarded at A*-A.

2021 headline GCSE results from St Mary’s are as follows:

  • 47 % A* grades
  • 66 % A* - A grades
  • 92 % A*- B grades
  • 98 % A*- C grades
  • 100% A* - G grades

The following departments celebrated high achievers, with at least half of all students gaining a grade 9: History (53%), Art (50%), Class Civ (57%), Latin (55%) and Classical Greek (60%). Furthermore, Music achieved 100% grades at 9 or 8.

Emma Hall, Deputy Head, Director of Studies and Academic Registrar, said: “Congratulations to all of our Year 11 girls today on their exam results. It’s been another strange year for everyone, but our girls have remained motivated and committed to their studies at every stage. Today’s results reflect their conscientiousness and their determination to succeed. As a team, the teachers at St Mary’s are very proud of the girls’ achievements – not just today – but throughout the entire year. We wish all of our GCSE finishers well and hope that they enjoy their summer holidays before embarking on the next stage of their education – whether at St Mary’s or elsewhere.”

Headmistress at St Mary’s School, Cambridge, Charlotte Avery, said: “The resolve that our Year 11 students have shown throughout the last two academic years has been incredible. When the pandemic started, this cohort was in Year 10 – at a crucial stage of the GCSE curriculum. Over the last two academic years they have shown great flexibility – seamlessly switching from remote learning to in-class lessons and back again. This agility will stand them in great stead for the future. Well done girls.  We look forward to seeing what our girls will go on to achieve next and can’t wait to welcome many of them back to start their A Levels at St Mary’s in September.”
