St Mary’s showcases students’ work at Open House event

On Thursday 16 June, St Mary’s opened the doors to its Senior School to welcome parents, families, and carers to view a unique showcase of work created by our talented students at our 2022 Open House event.

Guests were able to tour the school to see the incredible breadth of work on display created by students from across the year groups. Alongside the Open House a stunning exhibition of art and photography was available in Studio 47, with Year 12 work displayed in our Textiles Studio. A poetry corner was set up in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), which showcased our student’s amazing creative writing.

Hall B was adorned with impressive work including models of mosques, shanty towns and castles from our Humanities department; a recent EPQ display; GCSE and A Level Textiles creations; as well as work from our Wellbeing and Eco Committees and incredible performances from our music students. The Design Techonology studios were open for guests to view recent work and our facilities. Visitors were able to take time to reflect and relax in our Chapel. They could also visit our new outdoor learning classroom, and chat to students whilst browsing achievements from recent Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

As guests moved around the school they were able to enter classrooms to see further examples of students’ hard work. In SH7 guests saw the results of exciting rocket car experiments undertaken recently by our Year 7’s – including the cars themselves, posters and photos. Live demonstrations, photos and models from the recent Year 9 Physics and Engineering Fair were also available, as well as a tabletop display of STEMM activities.

Throughout the evening, visitors were entertained by a range of first-class performances from our students, including an agile dance and gymnastics display in our gym, and a live balloon debate from our Sixth Form scholars in the LRC. Our busking musicians set the atmosphere in Hall B and our budding Broadway stars put on a fantastic rehearsal for the upcoming Lower School play ‘Beauty and the Beast’ on the Chapel Lawn.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Open House 2022 and we look forward to welcoming you back again next year.
