St Mary’s School donation helps fund water system at Mary Ward High School in Mbizo, Kwekwe in Zimbabwe

We have a long term commitment to support the development of a new Mary Ward High School in Mbizo, Kwekwe in Zimbabwe, to improve educational opportunities for children of secondary school age, building on the work of the highly successful junior school. Our latest donation, generously raised by parents, staff and students during our Fun Run and other fundraising activities last year, is helping to fun a new water pump.

Sister Maria Goretti CJ, Provincial Superior of the Zimbabwean province, wrote to us to thank us for the donation. At the time of our donation, the school was sourcing money for their science block. Sister Maria Goretti writes,

“Your contribution just came in when we were concerned about the water system. They are using municipality water which is scarce and expensive for our learners to do Agriculture practicals. We had managed to drill a borehole but we had the challenge of the connections and the pump. We want to go for a solar pump since the electricity is unreliable due to frequent power cuts. You cannot imagine how timely and important this gift is to us CJ sisters and the learners.”

We were delighted to hear how our donation helps to fund the new water system and broaden opportunities for these learners. We look forward to seeing what the next few years hold for the new school in Zimbabwe.
