St Mary's rowers put down a strong performance in the Henley Sculls Head

At the beginning of the month, our J1 squad travelled to Henley-on-Thames to compete in the Henley Sculls, testing three crews against stronger competition from the Thames Valley.

First up was our Year 11 double of Charlotte M. and Honour C. Going off second in their category, the girls rowed really well, staying with the top crews and finishing a credible 7th from 15 crews. Next up was our rowing captain, Olivia H. racing in Year 13 singles. Racing against a very strong field including Henley Royal Regatta winners and girls who have represented Great Britain on the international stage, Olivia put down a very strong row, finishing 15th from 21 crews.

Last up was our Year 11 quad of Eilidh H., Vanessa L., Anna T. and Mercy M.. Coming into the day confident after a good couple of weeks leading up to the race, the girls did not disappoint, putting down a very strong row to finish 2nd from eight behind a very strong Henley Rowing club.

Overall, it was a really encouraging day with all of the crews executing their race plans well and getting the deserved results. Now our J1 rowers have a bit of a break from racing before our eagerly awaited training camp at the end of term.
