St Mary’s perform at annual ‘Ludi Scaenici’ competition
On 24 May a team of eleven Year 8 students entered the annual ‘Ludi Scaenici’ Latin play competition at the Perse School. St Mary’s performed an original play which was a spin off of our Latin course, following the family of Caecilius trying out some money making schemes after an unfortunate encounter with a con artist.
The students had a lot of fun experimenting with the scenes and worked very hard to learn their lines, pronounce the Latin accurately and convey the story through convincing acting. Five local schools competed, and the standard was very high. Although we did not win this year, the judges highly commended the whole cast for their accuracy and enjoyment, particularly noting the clarity of their diction, the light hearted comic touches and the choreography in a gladiator match. Thank you to the cast and the make up and costume helpers - optime! (Very well done!)
