St Mary's competes at the National Schools' Regatta 2024
In the National Schools' Regatta on the May Bank Holiday weekend, it was great to see our younger, developing, crews putting down such strong performances on a national stage: an accomplishment which bodes well for the future of St Mary's rowing.
WJ14 4x+ crews (A & B)
We had two crews racing in year 9 quads. Our A and B crews came 9th and 34th respectively out of 45 crews. That put our B crew as the 5th B crew from nine and sent our A crew through to the B-final where, after a sluggish start, they showed their mid-race pace to come back to a respectable 4th, placing them 10th in the country.
WJ15 2nd crew
Our WJ15 2nd 4x+ raced well in their time trial, placing 14th from 23 crews. In the C-final, they got off to a great start, moving briefly into the lead after halfway, before having to settle for 3rd, placing them 15th overall.
WJ15 1st crew
In the last event of the day, our Year 10 A crew raced an excellent time trial, placing 11th and going into the B-final. After a battling performance in their final, with the crew throwing down push after push, they finished in 6th, which placed them 12th overall.
Congratulations to the crews, and to Oliver Fraser, Head of Rowing, for such determination and dedication, and for taking St Mary's rowing to a new level.
