Sports day
The Senior School sports day was once again fuelled by excitement and determination and it was clear from the outset that another successful event was on the cards. The girls took part in a wide range of track and field events at the University of Cambridge Wilberforce Road Sports Ground; running, jumping and throwing their way to personal victories. All the girls showed remarkable sportsmanship and team work throughout the day by cheering on their team mates. The roars of excitement and support became particularly apparent when the highly anticipated relay race edged closer. The girls had to skilfully hand the baton to one another, ending in a competitive sprint to the finish line.
Despite the weather conditions being questionable, school records were both matched and broken, which heightened the level of excitement and secured some competitors a place in the St Mary’s School, Cambridge history books. The Sixth Form students broke the staff team’s reign in the parent, staff and Sixth Form relay race, by beating them to the finish line; staff members clearly have some training to do ahead of next year’s re-match.
The winners’ presentation saw the victors collect their well-deserved prizes. We are happy to have hosted another successful day that showed the team spirit of our students, and the power of sport to bring people together.
