Sporting success at Senior School Sports Day
St Mary’s continued the tradition of starting Sports Day with a colourful Olympic style opening ceremony, displaying team spirit as they walked around the track with their houses. The weather was fantastic with beautiful blue skies and a gentle cool breeze.
The camaraderie continued as the girls cheered on all competitors. Catherine D. won the Hope Gilbert Trophy for the best Year 10 individual performance on the day; Lulu H., Rosie K. and Amelia F. were worthy runners up. Several school records were broken in nail-biting races. Tamzin D. R. broke the Year 8 Javelin record with a throw of 24.25m, while Connie P. broke the record for Rounders Ball throw with 38.47m. The Year 9 Athletics team also broke the Year 9 4x100m relay record with a time of 57.4s. From discus to high jump, each girl gave it her all.
Cavendish took first place in the Year 7 Inter-house competition, Elms won the Year 8 competition, while Paston won the Year 9 and 10 competitions, meaning that the overall winning house was Paston.
