Spectacular summer concert
Congratulations to all the musicians who participated in last Wednesday’s highly accomplished and musically brilliant Senior School summer concert. The audience was treated to a fantastic array of musical styles, from classical music to film music, samba to jazz, all performed by a wide range of musical ensembles. The winner of both our ‘Young Pianist of the Year’ and ‘Young Musician of the Year competitions, Cherry C., gave a mesmerising and beautiful performance of the second movement of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11. In her final concert with the school, Upper Sixth musician Alice P. gave an impressive rendition of I know that my Redeemer Liveth, from Handel’s Messiah.
The evening featured performances from all of the school’s large-scale ensembles; senior orchestra, training orchestra, concert band, training wind band, samba band, Jazzmatazz, Cantore, Allegro and the Year 7 choir. Other highlights included Allegro’s atmospheric and entrancing performance of Eric Whitacre’s She Weeps over Rahoon, and the jazz band’s stunning performance of Skyfall with vocalist Beatrice H. bringing the house down. Congratulations to the Music department for another outstanding concert, with special thanks to Mrs Sonia Gears for all of her work preparing the girls and co-ordinating the event on the night, and to Mrs Emma Fisher, now on maternity leave, for her work in preparing the girls before her departure and for returning to the fold to attend the concert to support the girls on the evening.
