Skiing students
During the Christmas break 26 of our students from Year 8 and Year 9 (accompanied by five members of staff) travelled to Italy on the school ski trip. The group journeyed by coach and were treated to some spectacular scenery en route as they headed through the Alps. The final destination was the Etoile Du Nord in Sarre, just outside the ancient Roman city of Aosta, where the girls spent their days skiing on the snowy slopes in Pila.
Despite half of the group being beginners, by the end of the week many of the girls displayed great skill and progress as they cruised along the red runs! The staff also enjoyed the skiing, tasty coffee breaks and soaking up the sun. All the girls received badges and certificates for their skiing – with Katie G. being identified by the ski school as a possible instructor of the future. Well done too to Sophie W. who was voted our ‘Mary Ward tourist’ of the trip.
Off the slope the girls ate pizza and gelato, went swimming and bowling and watched Frozen. A real highlight of the week was the students’ ice-skating trip, where all the girls got involved, those with experience teaching those with less, working really well in supporting each other to work their way around the rink – a real show of teamwork and camaraderie. Everyone arrived home happy and intact from a very successful ski trip.
