Sixth Form students support Jimmy’s
Jimmy’s was Cambridge’s first all-year-round night shelter for the homeless, opening in 1995 in the basement of the Zion Baptist Church on East Road. Since then, the charity has grown from five dorm rooms with bunkbeds, to a four storey 24-hour service with 20 single occupancy en-suite rooms and extensive facilities for day time use. The charity not only provides an opportunity for warmth and comfort at night, but now offers support to those who want to focus on resettlement, wish for life skills training and have a goal to achieve long term life changes.
In the run up to Christmas, our school prefects decided that they would like to support this wonderful local charity in its efforts to tackle homelessness. The girls arranged for each form group to have a designated day for collecting donations that would be given to the charity in time for Christmas. The donations were gratefully received by the charity and we hope provided comfort for those who needed it most.
