Sixth Form social programme kicks off 2024 with a feel-good musical at the Cambridge Arts Theatre

At The Sixth, we value the importance of experiences outside of study, of engendering friendships, interests and broader horizons that may, hopefully, stay with our students well beyond their time spent with us.

So, we are always delighted when our sixth formers suggest activities to be included in their social programme for the year, and even more so when we see their enjoyment of a social event together.

Having an attractive social programme for our students means, of course, including go-karting with go-pros, pizza (thankfully always after the high-speed part), ten-pin bowling, a May Ball at Westminster College, punting (in true Cambridge style) and more.

Their most recent venture was to see '9 to 5' at the Cambridge Arts Theatre, which reminded us just how lucky we are to have this fantastic venue on our doorstep!

This musical follows 'the madcap exploits of three misfit women struggling under the chauvinistic yoke of corporate America' according to Time Out. It includes a fantastic, female-empowering ending and it was interesting to reflect on how much has changed for women in the workplace since the 1970's.

And since both musical and Dolly Parton were inspired by the 1970's women's activist organisation 9to5, here's a great Dolly quote to end on: “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”
