Sing for your school success!
In the Autumn Term Year 5 and Year 6 pupils attended two, two-hour, workshops with Mr Pete Ord – our designated musician for the Sing for Your School competition. In the first workshop Mr Ord helped the girls to come up with the concepts for the song – that the pupils are like busy bees in a hive, similar to Beatrice the Bee, the Junior School mascot, and that Mary Ward is our Queen Bee. At the second session Mr Ord helped the pupils to record the song that had been composed by the girls in both year groups; Year 5 pupils focused on the lyrics and Year 6 pupils learnt about chords, chord progressions and melody writing, and composed the shape of the chorus and verses.
We asked family and friends of the school to listen to the song that the girls created, and also vote for the song to help the girls triumph in the competition, by clicking here. We are delighted to let you know that the girls’ song made it to the final round of the competition. Our singers are one of nine finalist groups who will give a live performance at Cambridge Corn Exchange on Thursday 2 March. Well done girls for creating such a beautiful song.
