Schools Head
The St Mary's School, Cambridge rowers enjoyed a sunny day on the Tideway River on Thursday 17 March for The Schools Head race. The race is rowed over the full boat race course, and the girls did an excellent job remaining focused during their longest race to date! Our Sixth Form crew welcomed a guest appearance from student Harriet H. – three years younger than the rest of the team, and an invaluable asset to the crew on the day. Harriet rows with the St Ives rowing club and is certainly brave and skilled enough to race with our Sixth Form crew.
The crew achieved a time of 25.14 over the course; the Champion of the Thames crew from Cambridge was the fastest local crew, finishing in 23.14 – so a respectable result for our girls’ first attempt at the course. Being on the river amongst the best rowing schools in the UK (and a visiting Italian crew) is always a great experience for the girls, and gives them some valuable experience and kudos for pursuing rowing in the years ahead.
Each of the girls will receive full rowing colours: Poppy S. (cox), Lexi M., Dianne C., Lucy S., Harriet H., Jessie M., Sukey C., Flossie B., and Izzy M. Well done girls!
