Rowers impress on the River Yare
Last Saturday the Upper Sixth rowers, accompanied by Mrs Sue Brown, competed in the Norwich Head Race on the beautiful River Yare. The team was supported by Julie C. and Cody Y., from the Lower Sixth novice team, and Year 10 student, Harriet H., who stepped up to join the Upper Sixth team and complete the crew on the day.
There were four novice women’s crews, including our team, competing over a 5km race and all the teams finished within a minute of each other. It was our crew’s first outing together and the girls produced a very respectable result, coming in only 20 seconds behind Hills Road Sixth Form College after 21 minutes of racing. With the added advantage of being on their home river, Norwich High School came in first place amongst the novices.
The girls demonstrated real teamwork and, as ever, pulled together on the day, making it a worthwhile and enjoyable day for all. We are now looking forward to the School’s Head Race on Thursday 17 March - watch this space for updates.
