Nuffield Awards
Over the summer, Upper Sixth student Lerato M. participated in the Nuffield Foundation’s Research Placement Scheme, where students spend four weeks of the summer break working at universities, laboratories and research institutes across East Anglia, on a wide range of projects, covering everything from outdoor fieldwork studying plant roots to artificial intelligence and internet security. They get to go into businesses and locations outside of school, and they prepare a scientific report. Lerato spent her time working for WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, on a public transport accessibility study with regard to AstraZeneca Academy House and World Headquarters, Cambridge Biomedical Campus. She produced an excellent report which was praised by the team from STEM Team East.
On Wednesday 19 October 60 of the students attended a certificate presentation at Anglia Ruskin University, arranged by STEM Team East, the educational charity which co-ordinated the summer scheme. All students who completed the course received an award from the Nuffield Foundation, as well as recognition from the British Science Association.
