National competition ahead for our talented swimmers
St Mary's is very proud of Georgia M (Year 11) and Matilda R (Year 10), who have both qualified to compete at the 2021 British Swimming Championships in April.
After putting in hard work and training, Matilda has qualified for the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley races and Georgia will compete in the 50m and 100m breaststroke races at the Championships.
The girls will be competing against top swimmers from all corners of the British Isles, in the highest level of competition available to their age group. The competition is organised by British Swimming, the national organisation responsible for the high performance of British athletes in swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, water polo and open water swimming.
Plans for the 2021 competition are going ahead, with British Swimming acknowledging the challenges the Covid-19 pandemic is placing on the ability to train. The competition in April will go ahead if safe to do so and the publication of qualifying times marks a positive step towards getting back in the pool to compete again.
Louise Powell, Director of Sport at St Mary's said: "We are very proud and excited for Matilda and Georgia, and wish them the best of luck for the upcoming championships."
