Mrs Brown returns as regatta champion!
From Wednesday 6 September to Sunday 10 September Mrs Sue Brown, rowing coach, Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award co-ordinator, and teacher of Mathematics competed at the 2017 World Rowing Masters Regatta in Bled, Slovenia. Alongside over 3000 other rowers from across the globe, aged from 27 up to nearly 90, Mrs Brown did St Mary’s School, Cambridge proud! She was entered in three different races, and placed impressively well in all.
The races are categorised by letters with each letter representing a particular age group. In the single E event (over 55’s), after a poor start, Mrs Brown raced to the finish line against a Lithuanian rower. Just missing out on first place, she finished a respectable second place behind her speedy challenger. Our resident rower also competed in the rather rainy Mixed E Quad. Despite the torrential downpour Mrs Brown’s team managed to finish third against two very polished German crews. She said “the standard of racing just seems to rise every year, fewer British crews are winning the sculling events for sure!”. The highlight of her trip was winning the Women’s B Double (over 36’s). Mrs Brown and her rowing partner managed to hold a strong lead to finish in first place!
Congratulations to Mrs Brown for her exceptional achievements.
