Mrs Brown enters her 20th Original Mountain Marathon!

On the weekend of 28 and 29 October the Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) took place in the Lake District and our very own Mrs Sue Brown, Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award co-ordinator and teacher of Mathematics, travelled up to take part for the 20th time (her first entry was in 1984). The event is a pairs competition where teams have to carry two days’ worth of supplies in a rucksack and orienteer over the fells looking for various checkpoints.

This year marked the 50th anniversary of the event and the 20th time Mrs Brown and her partner have participated, so they had a strong understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which came in handy when times got a little tough. The two entered the short score event which involved collecting as many points as possible in a fixed time each day. The weather was unfortunately not on their side on Saturday, with thick fog and high winds sweeping over, but they ended up being the fastest female team. The two managed to hold their position in the glorious sunshine that appeared on the Sunday and finished as the first female team, coming sixth overall. 138 teams competed over the two days in the short score event, with a considerable number dropping out after day one. Well done to Mrs Brown and her partner on a phenomenal achievement!
