Money raised for CAFOD's 'Give It Up' Lent campaign
On Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent - the Church's period of prayer, fasting and giving in the lead up to Easter - we held our second Hunger Lunch of the school year in support of CAFOD.
Many students and staff took the opportunity to swap their normal school lunch for simple soup, bread and fruit in solidarity with those who regularly go without food. Funds are donated to CAFOD for each Hunger Lunch and others chose to donate or buy a Hunger Lunch instead of their packed lunch.
The event has raised over £280 which will go to CAFOD's 'Give It Up' Lent campaign. CAFOD say that £1 buys a fruit tree sapling for a family; £7 provides rice seeds that will grow in salty water; £26 buys ten ducks that are hardy to local diseases; £167 builds a pond for a family to breed fish.
