Lower Sixth Geography trip to Norfolk
Last Friday and Saturday Mrs Janine Norman and Miss Fleur Spore had a great time in glorious September sunshine taking the Lower Sixth Geography students to Sea Palling to study the differences between the wave energy behind the offshore reefs and in the gaps between the reefs. The weather was warm and the waves were small which certainly added to the group’s enjoyment, and the girls conducted a series of beach profiles to compare the differences of the beach which had accumulated behind the reefs and those much narrower and flatter beaches in the gaps between the reefs, which makes a great case study of how the coastal landscape has changed in response to management strategies in ways that were not expected by the civil engineers.
On Saturday the group walked the length of Blakeney Spit – again in pretty good conditions – measuring pebble shapes and sizes to see if there was any variation along the spit. The seals were very interested in the group and watched from only a few metres offshore!
