Lourdes
We continued our school's long and happy tradition of pilgrimage to the town of Lourdes over the summer; a town in the foothills of the Pyrenees where our Sixth Form students join in with thousands of other pilgrims from all over the world in assisting the sick and disabled. Having been part of our annual Lourdes Fundraising Fortnight throughout their time in the Senior School, it was now the turn for a group of Sixth Form girls to see for themselves what the experience is like. St Mary's School, Cambridge alumnae also made the pilgrimage, many of them not for the first time; a total of 15 alumnae and staff found their way back to this special place.
The weather was warm and bright, and the mountain region that greeted the group looked glorious. The girls worked hard all week assisting and supporting their pilgrims in many and diverse ways. From the moment they arrived - at the airport - they were engaged and involved in ensuring that their efforts enabled others to experience Lourdes, in ways that would otherwise not have been possible. It was a week of weary work but, footsore and somewhat sleep-deprived, the girls all had a fabulous time, met new friends, and will no doubt enjoy the long and lasting friendships that a week in Lourdes invariably helps to foster. Onwards to Lourdes 2017.
