Lourdes Fundraising Fortnight
Students from Year 7 to Year 11 have spent the past fortnight taking part in a number of fundraising activities to raise money for the Glanfield Children’s Group, as part of our annual 'Lourdes Fundraising Fortnight’. In association with The Catholic Association, the Glanfield Children’s Group runs a holiday-pilgrimage, taking sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and their parents and siblings, as well as adults with learning difficulties, to Lourdes. Students have enjoyed devising and carrying out various fundraising activities including bake and sweet sales, sponging the teacher, the yearly dog show and the hugely popular male staff netball match.
One of the highlights of this year’s fortnight saw students in Year 9 staging a ‘Great British Bake Off’ style challenge, and welcoming Mrs Sally Neville as their guest judge. Mrs Neville is a fantastic baker and was an entrant in the Cambridge bake off last year, which she is hoping to enter again this year. Mrs Neville was very impressed by the baking skills demonstrated by our girls and thoroughly enjoyed tasting all the entries. Many thanks to Mrs Neville for coming in and helping out with the judging. To finish the fortnight with a bang, this morning’s (18 March) break time saw a Sweeney Todd inspired experience involving Mr Stephen Seidler’s beard!
Well done to students and staff alike for organising such a brilliant Lourdes Fundraising event. We will share the total raised in due course.
