Ladies Who Lunch
On Friday 11 November 12 enthusiastic Sixth Form students visited Ms Avery’s parlour with their lunches for this year’s first Ladies Who Lunch session – where students hear from working women about their experiences – to hear from Hannah Roberts, who works at Penn Farm Podiatry in Cambridge. The girls asked Hannah how she got into podiatry and why she studied Podiatry at university (i.e. rather than a Biology or Human Biology degree). They were interested in Hannah’s training, and the kind of work she does in her practice.
Hannah brought in some surgical instruments to show the girls and she spoke about some of the surgical procedures she does, linked with diseases such as diabetes. Some of the Lower Sixth students were particularly interested in how Hannah started her own business, and Hannah was able to share her experiences of setting it up, financing and advertising it and the logistics involved. It was a fantastic session and we are most grateful to Hannah for coming in to school. If any mothers or other women in our community would be interested in coming in to school one Friday lunch time to speak to the girls about your working life, please get in touch with Miss Vicky Handley, Deputy Head of Sixth Form.
