Ladies who lunch
On Tuesday 12 January a group of Sixth Form students had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs Judith Bates into school for the fortnightly Ladies Who Lunch session. Mrs Bates is a former governor, of nine years, and now the school’s first fellow; we are delighted Judith wishes to maintain her connection with the school and are pleased she will continue to attend events in this new capacity - no longer formally sitting on committees and the board - as she is a great support to the school and advocate of the school’s ethos.
The girls were treated to a very inspiring talk about Mrs Bates’ work for FAD (Fashion Awareness Direct) – a creative charity supporting young people to bridge the gap between education and the fashion industry. Mrs Bates introduced the girls to the history, aims and daily business of FAD and shared her experience of working to ensure that the charity promotes a Christian ethos in the fashion industry – such as respecting the dignity of a person through clothes. Mrs Bates advised the girls to dress suitably for an occasion, to wear their clothes with confidence and to express themselves through the clothes they choose to wear.
The girls were also encouraged to consider a career in the fashion industry. The talk provided some great food for thought for the girls as they consider the type of career they want to pursue after school.
