Junior School staff take on new challenge with Chariots of Fire race

Six enthusiastic members of the Junior School signed up to represent St Mary's School and take part in the Chariots of Fire race on Sunday. Chariots of Fire is one of Cambridgeshire’s largest annual charity events, in which teams of six each run a 1.7 mile relay race. The team, Mrs Osmant, Mr Ashford, Mrs Dudley, Ms Freebairn, Dr Degnan and Miss Shale, made up the 'St Mary's Moovers and Shakers', named after the Cambridge Cows art project which captured the school's community.

Their matching navy St. Mary's emblazoned t-shirts drew many admiring glances, and they were all in high spirits as they congregated in their 'zone' at 9am to discuss their tactics. They were very happy to have Melanie, a seasoned marathon runner, starting off the race. In the words of Mrs Natalie Shale,

'...we knew that things would only get a lot slower once she passed the baton on'.

What they lacked in running prowess, however, they made up for in team spirit. Despite finishing in 183rd place out of 200 teams, 'we all felt like winners'.
