Junior Rowing Squads compete, and win, in the Rob Roy Small Boats Head Race
This weekend saw the first rowing race for the St Mary's J1 and J2 squads at the Rob Roy Small Boats Head, a time trial over 2600m held on the river Cam.
With 6 crews entered across 4 events, it was a nice way to start the year and show some of the potential for later in the year. The highlight of the day was Jess A. winning her event, racing up a year as a J17 single sculler. She also posted the fastest time of the day for a Junior women's sculler. Also racing up a year, Olivia H. came a credible 3rd in her first race in a single.
Tilly T. and Emerson A. just missed out on the win in Women's J16 double sculls, just losing out to Abby H. racing with her partner from Cantabrigian Rowing club, with Georgia L. and Lizzie S. taking 3rd place.
There was also a win for our Women's J15 coxed quad with Anna T., Joelle A., Esme L., Honour C. and Leonie H. as cox teaming up to be the fastest Junior women's quad of the day.
Finishing off the St Mary's entry were Maryam G. and Natasha L. who did not have any opposition but had a solid row to get their season underway.
Summing up the day, Mr Frazer, St Mary’s new Head of Rowing, said:
"All in all it was a solid start to the season and hopefully bodes well for the year ahead.”
