Jubilant candle decorating
On the last Sunday of the academic year, 3 July, boarders drew inspiration from the new boarding house, Mary Ward House, and designed and decorated candles that will be used to decorate the new home. Using the dining room as their workshop, the girls focused on the two chosen Mary Ward characteristics for the coming academic year: ‘Seeing the good in all creation’ and ‘Coping effectively with failure’. The purpose of the afternoon was to provoke thought whilst having fun and, prior to the activity, the girls were fully briefed and learned about the symbolism of light, and saw some examples of beautifully decorated candles for inspiration.
The finished candles have been collected and will be used in the garden during the ceremony to open Mary Ward House next year.
