Innovative partnership gets A* results
Students from St Mary's Senior School, Cambridge and local state school partner St Bede’s Inter-Church School are sharing success in Classical Greek GCSE, with all St Bede's partner students achieving A* grades.
For over eight years, students from St Mary's and St Bede's have enjoyed the opportunity to work together and extend their subject range at GCSE, by studying Classical Greek GCSE in after-school classes. This forward-thinking partnership enables students from both schools to access an additional GCSE subject.
For young people considering careers in medicine or science, a Greek language qualification is invaluable. GCSE Classical Greek makes an impressive addition to university applications, as well as opening up opportunities for young people to pursue this fascinating subject at 6th Form and beyond.
The Greek language initiative is just one example of the positive outcomes of this long-established partnership. Other examples include opportunities for students to study Spanish and Latin together, plus shared professional development for teachers and other resource sharing initiatives.
Alisdair Day, Head of St Bede's Inter-Church School comments: "We've benefitted hugely from being able to form a partnership with St Mary's independent school, where our students have been able to take part in lessons, in languages in particular, that we wouldn't normally be able to provide."
Angela, a Classical Greek student from St Bede's, "I really enjoy doing it, because it's helped me in my other subjects and it makes me look at things differently."
